My dad has sat on a turntable and 400+ records for decades now. In all my years of living I’ve never seen that damn thing get used. When I moved out (again, hopefully for good this time) I asked him about it and he let me take it. He also gave me first dibs on his records, in which I’ve pilfered plenty and been given the task of flogging the rest… at some point. I’ll use this page to list what I have.

gaming rig

Turntable: Rega Planar 2 (a mid-80’s one, not the 2016 one)

Cartridge: Linn K5, although it’s ancient and needs replacing. Will probs pick up an AT-VM95E at some point.

Receiver: Sony STR-VX22, bagged off eBay. I don’t have the cash for a split pre- and power-amp set up right now.

Speakers: A couple of old Mission 731s

Cosey Fanni Tutti - Time to Tell

Cosey Fanni Tutti - Time to Tell (2017)

Picked up: 24 September 2021

Unbelievable find, this. This is the LP release of Cosey’s 1982 cassette of the same name. I was in Huddersfield to get a tattoo and thought I’d kill time before my train back exploring the city a bit. I found Vinyl Tap, a vinyl shop (surprise!) , so of course I had to go in and see the offerings. I had a decent scan all over the shop floor and found this in the minimal/experimental section. I asked at the till to see if they had a section for industrial/EBM/noise or whatever and they said they didn’t, but anything they did have that fell into those genres would be on their website.

I’ll need to check their site out actually - I’m back in the area for a follow-up in a few months so I’ll have to see if they have any cool shit I can order in and pick up.

Anyway, back to this release, genuinely shameful but I’ve not listened to it yet. I love Cosey and have an insane amount of respect for her, the least I can do is give this a spin sometime.

Revolting Cocks ‎– Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?

Revolting Cocks ‎– Da Ya Think I’m Sexy? (1993)

Picked up: 1 July 2021

Well, this was interesting. I was having a mooch when picking up some albums I’d bought off the bloke online and found this specimen.

The single in person

“Mate, what’s in this?”

“No clue. Was told it’s just meant to be like that.”

Hmm. The possibility of someone taking a fat slash in this sleeve had been reduced, but it was still unclear just what the fuck this was. I buy it anyway, as we all love a bit of RevCo, and head online for some investigative journalism.

I find it on Discogs and head to the Notes section, which quickly lets me know it’s lube, and not piss. Hand me my Pulitzer.

Favourite track: Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?

Edwin Starr ‎– Missiles (We Don’t Want To Die)

Edwin Starr ‎– Missiles (We Don’t Want To Die) (1985)

Picked up: 1 July 2021

The striking artwork pulled me immediately when I seen this. The opening lines of the song let you know exactly what you’re in for.

Children crying, people dying
We don’t want none

We don’t want to die!
Keep those missiles out the sky!

Edwin Starr had been putting out anti-war songs for 15 years at this point. This one is another hard-hitting (yet also incredibly catchy) protest anthem. It feels almost morbid singing along to this, yelling “we don’t want to die!” along with the song, but I suppose it’s nowhere near as morbid as the United States, the UK, and other imperialist countries carpet-bombing countries and killing innocent people in the name of power and control.

Favourite track: Missiles (We Don’t Want To Die)

Erasure - Crackers International

Erasure - Crackers International (1988)

Picked up: 1 July 2021

This EP only includes one of the greatest tunes by Erasure ever – Stop!. The music video I recently found out was directed by Sleazy of Throbbing Gristle. A legit pioneer of industrial music directing the video for a classic gay anthem… you just love to see it.

Favourite track: Stop!

Front 242 - Politics Of Pressure

Front 242 - Politics Of Pressure (1986)

Picked up: 1 July 2021

I’m over the moon I was able to even find this. I only bought this just to have a physical copy of Don’t Crash, plus the album artwork fucks.

Favourite track: Don’t Crash

Pet Shop Boys ‎– Always On My Mind

Pet Shop Boys ‎– Always On My Mind (1987)

Picked up: 1 July 2021

What is there even to say about this one? An absolutely unforgettable tune. Essential release for anyone with functioning ears.

Favourite track: Always On My Mind

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - The Best of OMD

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - The Best of OMD (1988)

Picked up: 23 June 2021

Full of bangers, this one. I’m in the process of helping a close friend clear out old games and vinyl that she no longer wants. She let me have a flick through to see what she had and I had my heart set on this one, which she kindly let me have, as well as her copy of WWF In Your House for PS1 which I’ll hype up elsewhere on the site.

Favourite track: Enola Gay

current hoard

I’ll make this nice and cute later on but for now another bastard HTML table will have to do.
